Abstract:
Annual financial planning has been the cornerstone of business management for decades. But in a world where markets change every three weeks, where inflation is erratic, and where supply chains break without warning, the rigid annual budget has become more of a ritual than a tool. This article argues that making annual budgets in chaotic environments is a painkiller: it calms the owner's anxiety but does not solve the underlying problem. Through the concept of limited predictability in dynamic complex systems, it explores why traditional budgets fail, how the Beyond Budgeting model offers a real alternative, and how SMEs can build adaptive planning systems that allow them to navigate uncertainty without clinging to figures that will soon become obsolete.
